Our patients often say that breastfeeding is one of the most stressful parts of the early days of parenthood. We are here to help! Willows is proud to offer lactation support with our experienced lactation consultants before and after your baby is born. Our class is open to all parents – you do not need to have children who are patients at Willows, or have met our physicians, to attend the class. We are here for all Fairfield county families.
Breast Feeding 101 is a one and one-half hour long breastfeeding class held at our Westport office that is designed with the needs of expectant parents in mind – our goal is to build your foundation of knowledge, help ease your prenatal concerns and set you on the path of breast feeding success.
Willows Breastfeeding Class is taught by Dana Czuczka, IBCLC, one of our certified lactation consultants at Willows. Dana offers practical information about the do’s (follow your baby’s cues) and don’ts (follow the clock) of breastfeeding so you and your baby can have a healthy, comfortable, and enjoyable experience.
Topics and breast feeding tips covered in our class include the following common breastfeeding concerns and problems:
- Benefits of breastfeeding: What to expect in first 24-48 hours
- Breastfeeding positions and latch
- Pain with latching on – myth vs. reality (it doesn’t have to hurt!)
- Diet for breastfeeding mothers
- Milk production – what you need to know
- Pumping and storage
- Breast feeding in public
- How to stop breastfeeding when you want to/need to
- And other common issues and how to overcome them
Our fee for the class is $50.00 per family. (We encourage fathers and partners to attend too!).
